Create a Mobile Layer and View using a CSV File

Checklist to create your first mobile layer with your own data

1. You have downloaded CMaps Analytics App or GMaps Mobile to your iPad: DOWNLOAD NOW
2. You have logged in and reviewed the GETTING STARTED TUTORIAL
3. You have Registered for the standard version of CMaps Analytics of GMaps Mobile.

You are ready to use your own data!

Step 1:
Prepare your Data

CMaps Analytics (formerly GMaps Mobile ) will allow you to take any data from your business and map it. However, you need to put your data in a specific format so that CMaps Analytics will know how to interpret it. The format is extremely simple but may require you to do some re-arranging in Excel, or Google Docs.

*Important Note: CMaps Analytics standard only supports Google Docs and CSV Connectivity. For access to SAP BusinessObjects or direct database connectivity, please contact our sales team for access to CMaps Analytics Enterprise

Step 2:
Open and Log into CMaps Analytics
 App on iPad

Don’t have CMaps Analytics App? You skipped some steps:
CLICK HERE

Enter your Company Name which should be the same for when you registered for your free account or the enterprise company assigned to your organization by your internal administrator.

Enter your User Name which will be your e-mail address used when you registered for your free account or your corporate email for CMaps Analytics enterprise.

Enter your Password. If you forgot your password, simply press “forgot your password” and you can have it emailed to you.

Remember Me will store your user name and company for the next time you log in.

Step 3:
Create a Layer

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you would like to use your own data to create new layers, you will need to familiarize yourself with the required data format that CMaps Analytics requires.

a. Press Layers which will load the list of available layers.

b. Press Create button in the upper right side of the screen

c. Press “Other Connection Type. In this tutorial you will be using a CSV file as the data sources.

d. Type the Connection Name: “Hello World”

e. Type the URL below:

f. Type Layer Description (optional)

g. Leave the “Share Layer” option to “Shared”
Layer sharing allows you to share individual layers with all other users in your organization. Turning layer sharing off will only make a layer available to your login.

Note: Trail users may can only access their own layers with shared turned on or off.

h. Choose Dynamic Icon Sizing

Dynamic icon sizing will use the data contained in the data to draw icons accordingly.

view propertiesi. Turn Alerts On and Set High Values are Good or High Values are Bad

Alerts will compare actual values to target values and paint the icons red or green accordingly.

Alerts and dynamic sizing enabled looks like the following. 

j. Press Save

IMPORTANT NOTE: Your Layer will now be saved. To view this new layer, you will now need to Create a View. The steps below

What is a CMaps Analytics Layer?

A CMaps Analytics Layer is a re-usable building block that is linked to one single report, spreadsheet, or query. Your first layer will be linked to a CSV file hosted on our server.

Create your first CMaps Analytics View using existing Layers

You have kicked the tires and you are logged in… Now you will create your first view!a. Press Views which will load the list of available views.

b. Press Create button in the upper right side of the screen

c. Select the layer you just created

d. Press Name text box and type the name of your View Hello World

e. Share with users in your company is selectable but not functional in the free version. However, in the Enterprise Edition, this option will share the view with all other mobile users within your organization.

f. Press Save

Your newly created View will be available for you to select and interact with.
