Learn CMaps Analytics Designer in 4 Minutes
Step 1:Â Create Your New Map View
Click “New” to create a new map
Name your View
Step 2: Create Your First Map Layer
Name your Layer
Step 3:Â Add Data to your Layer for Testing
Click on the Data Tab
Select Copy/Paste from Excel from the Select Data Source dropdown
Open an Excel file containing data with the following columns.
Step 4: Prepare your Data
Location– Can be addresses or Latitude/Longitude formatted as comma separated (latitude,longitude). This is preferred over addresses to ensure the best performance.
Valid Example (prefered): 34.4353,-122.3242
Valid Example: 1333 Camino Del Rio S
Valid Example: 92108
Invalid Example: Walmart, San Deigo
Value– Numeric value that represents a measure or performance metric. The value will can be used to control sizing, coloring, and other visual attributes in your map.
Label– The label controls contents that are displayed when clicking on a point, region, or any other visual asset on the map (based on the layer type).
Copy and Paste Data from Google Docs
Open your spreadsheet and Copy from the spreadsheet and paste into the Paste TSV text box
Note: This copy paste feature will NOT upload your data, but rather embed the data locally into the map.
Step 5:Â Configure Dynamic Alerts
Go to the Alerts Tab
Select Chrorpleth / Heatmap
Set your colors
Step 6: Save your Layer
Click Save to commit your layer changes and see the results in your map preview
This is an important step before viewing your results. You must always save your layers prior to previewing your map
Step 7: Save and Export your Map
Save and Export your map in one of 2 formats
HTML File Export
- Save locally as your map project for future edits.
- Send to your colleagues for review,
- Share the code for embedding CMaps Analytics
XML Configuration File Export
- Used as a project file that can be imported back into CMaps Designer
- Used as a configuration file / template file for your maps app.
